Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion Getting HD Remake

One of the odder freebie success stories is Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion, which got quite a large fan-following just by living up to its title.  The game is a first-person explorer through a mansion comprised of 1,000 rooms, and while it starts off cute and harmless it gets creepier the deeper you go.  It’s a slow burn, and you’ll need to bring patience to get to the point where it starts pulling out the real scares, but it gets there long around room 200 or so.  Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion was originally made in Gamemaker, though, and with its success the developers are working on a remake to polish up everything, including 3D monster models, more minigames, controller support, and (for those with an iron stomach) VR support too.  The new version is planned to be $10, but the improvements and included DLC from the original game should justify the new price tag.  For those fans who need it to remain free, though, the original isn’t going anywhere, so the update can wait while the budgeting is sorted out.

Spooky’s Jump Scare Mansion: HD Renovation is sitting on Steam’s Greenlight and should probably clear it in a couple days, and will release by the end of the year.
